Blue Sicks is a creative house rooted in memory, resourcefulness, and kick-ass women. Founded by Kara Cheri Lyness, the eldest daughter, the brand draws its spirit from the woman who shaped her—Rosemary Sicks Ullom. A mother whose creativity doesn't live in one medium, but in her entire way of being.
Our Origin Story
Blue Sicks is more than a brand—it is a realm where creativity, vision, and devotion intertwine. Born from the extraordinary legacy of my mother, Rosemary Ullom, Blue Sicks reaches back to the earliest sparks of her genius: handcrafting paper dolls, sewing her own clothing, sketching mesmerizing 1960s fashion illustrations, experimenting with textiles, and ultimately devoting 30+ years to crafting breathtaking interiors.
My mother taught me to see the magic in every detail. She instilled in me a reverence for thoughtful design, daring color, and the courage to create from what you have. Blue Sicks is my invitation to share that inheritance with the world.
With my background in fashion, real estate, and interior design, I grew up surrounded by artistry and craftsmanship. My mother’s firm, Rosemary Ullom Design Associates, has thrived solely through word of mouth—a testament to her otherworldly touch. Her work is an alchemy of imagination and intuition that transcends time.
The Woman Who Started It All
Before Blue Sicks was a brand, it was a childhood spent watching a woman build beauty with her hands: hanging wallpaper, painting rooms, refinishing furniture, sewing, crafting, restoring, reinventing.
She did the things most people—especially most women of her time—never dared to touch.
From the time she was a young girl, Rosemary was designing her own clothes: pieces that were elegant, high-fashion, and unmistakably hers. Later, she created all of my figure-skating costumes, both for practice and competition. They were works of art in motion, and wearing them made me feel like a million bucks.
Among all her expressions, it was her 1960s fashion illustrations that became the heartbeat of this brand. She encouraged me to pursue a degree in fashion while she, as a divorced single mother of two girls, returned to school to earn her degree in interior design.
For more than three decades, she has transformed houses into homes with an artist’s eye and a visionary’s courage. It became a family business—one I grew up in, one that taught me everything I know.
Her talent is unmatched. Her patience steady. Her creativity limitless. Her courage unwavering. I truly don’t know where I’d be without my mother.
Everything I am, I owe to her.
But it wasn’t just the drawings.
It was who she was—the artist, the mother, the force of nature behind them.        That spirit is the foundation of Blue Sicks.
Our Philosophy
We honor Rosemary’s legacy of resourcefulness and creativity by repurposing leather and materials whenever possible. These pieces are more than nostalgia—they are living echoes of a creative lineage.
What We Create
We begin with small-batch, intentional pieces:
- Apparel
- Repurposed leather goods
- Limited art prints of her original fashion illustrations
And we will grow into curated collections of:
- Beauty
- Home décor
- Art editions
- Wearable heirlooms
- Fashion curiosities
Our Promise
We honor the tiny, unforgettable details—the ones most people rush past.
We choose craft over convenience, devotion over shortcuts.
We work with a kind of beautiful stubbornness: grit, heart, and a fire that refuses to dim.
We believe the things we wear and live with should feel intimate, electric—charged with story.
Blue Sicks is that story.
A legacy stitched from art and imagination, lifted by resourcefulness, and carried forward by women who create magic out of thin air.
